Original Ford Model A: The Restorer's Guide by Jim Schild
128 pages Reviewer: Matthew Tague (St. Louis, MO USA) I have owned Model A Fords for the past 30 years so the book sparked an obvious interest. I truely enjoy reading and re-reading this book. I enjoy sharing this book with my young son as the photography is magnificent. I have many technical manuals and "standards" guides that just don't do Henry Ford's "A" justice like this book does. Money well spent. |

Restorer's Model a Shop Manual: Complete and Illustrated/F879Ap by Jim Schild
Reviewer: Martin L. Hassel (Manchester, Missouri USA) This is a "nuts and bolts" manual designed for "hands-on" restorers...romance novel, comic book and bathroom coffee table book readers need not apply. I personally restored and assembled an early 1928 Model A Phaeton using this book as my primary reference source combined with the Model A Judging Standards and Ford Service Bulletins. My car wouldn't be together without the extremely accurate instructions, plentiful illustrations and references. This is, by far, the best reference manual available on the Ford Model A, hands down!!! This book is from a fellow who has obviously restored quite a few cars and knows what he's talking about. One strives for accuracy but as time elapses, more is forgotten so you use multiple sources and cross reference. This book, however, is the definitive basis for all others...start here, you won't be disappointed with this essential "tool" for restoring your Model A. Torque specs, tool info., lubrication information, helpful hints abound in this step-by-step book. A must buy for the restorer!!! Truly magnificent! Reviewer: A reader This book was purchased a couple of years ago in the hope it would give me some help and insight into the world of the Ford Model A and how to "bring it back". I thought it was poorly and amateurishly written then and after looking at it again last night, think it is even worse than that!! If you are working on an early 1928 car it may have some use. The engine info is generalized and body information is worse - much is absolutely incorrect. In summation, THERE ARE A LOT BETTER SOURCES OF INFORMATION ON THIS VERY POPULAR AUTOMOBILE |

How to Restore the Model A Ford by Leslie R. Henry, Clymer Publications
Reviewer: Martin Brea (Quilmes, Buenos Aires Argentina) Iam from Argentina , and i bought this book to have some information to get started on restoring my Model A. This book gave me lot of specifications of the car but not any help on restoring the car, so if your idea is to have information , well it is a good book but if you want some help or steps for the restoration buy another book. |

Model A Ford: Construction, Operation, Repair for the Restorer by Victor W. Page
532 pages Reviewer: Matt Ferrari (Pittsburgh, PA USA) I purchased this book at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn over ten years ago--and am cursing my luck because I can't find it anywhere. The book was written, I believe, shortly after production of the Model A ended. It therefore recommends the use of very simple tools, something that many restorers on a budget would find welcome today. Also, because this book wasn't created by FoMoCo, it offers some homespun knowledge that can't be found in any official Ford factory bulletins. Even better, it covers some aftermarket parts available at the time. The book is charmingly illustrated with period prints, often showing novel approaches to tackling problems, but sometimes lacking in clear detail. Overall, this is a great resource. Where else can you find step-by-step instructions for removing a Model A body from its frame, or performing a simple alignment, or servicing of the suspension. Now where the heck did I put that book? |
