Rent before you buy! Save thousands! Before you buy a SeaDoo, Jetski or Waverunner, find out if it is the machine for you, RENT!
Personal watercraft are expensive and depreciate very quickly. I have seen too many people buy one before they ride them much, only to learn they are bored with them after a few hours, that their back cannot take the pounding, the fuel consumption is too high, and they would rather have a boat with room for a few friends, a fishing pole, or an icechest. I have seen too many skis for sale with much less than 100 hours on them, and selling at a loss of several thousand dollars for a cost of several hundred dollars per hour! Like a roller coaster, skis are fun but perhaps not something you want to do every day, would you want to ride a roller coaster every day, or even every week? Personal watercraft sales are declining, with Tigershark and Polaris already out of the business. PWC's are banned on many lakes, and many other boaters would rather not have them around. You cannot ride them at night, laws prohibit it, even with lights, banned.
The high cost of owning a Personal Watercraft and trailer, along with finding a place to store it, makes renting a less expensive option for many riders. Find the rental locations here, as many do not have websites. Help make this directory of PWC rental locations complete, if you have a PWC rental business, Add a PWC rental business link now.
Check the PWCs for sale listings to see how many skis are being sold with less than 50 hours, at a loss of $5,000 or more, because their owners did not ride one enough to make a wise decision before they bought. Too many times their cost of ownership was well over $100 per hour, and if you add the cost of fuel, maintenance, repairs, insurance, boat stickers, and trailer tags it is much worse.
Save your money! Do not buy until you are SURE this is what you want! Rent first several times, most people get tired of them quickly, but not everyone. If you are one of the few, THEN buy one.
