Honda made 3 PWC's for 2003. The two seater R-12X is only available with the turbocharged engine, while the three seater comes as the F-12 non turbo or the F-12X turbo. For 2003 you can choose either red or red, but more colors will be available in 2004.

The 1235cc engine, made especially for the PWC, produces 125hp or 165hp when turbocharged. Forged pistons and connecting rods are designed to hold up in the turbocharged versions. Honda went all out with this engine. External oil tank lets the engine sit low in the hull for better balance, and speaking of balance, while a 4 cylinder inline engine doesn't vibrate much to start with, Honda included gear driven balancers to eliminate any vibration. Waterproof ingnition system has 4 transitorized direct-ignition coils integrated into the spark plug caps! No high voltage wires to short out when they get wet. Double overhead cams and 4 valves per cylinder provide the air, while high pressure fuel injection pushes the gas through 4 jets per injector.

The turbocharger was designed for marine duty, both oil AND water cooled for dependable operation and a denser intake charge for maximum power. An enclosed pressure lubricated ceramic ball bearing provides for sustained high speed operation, but the engine only turns 6,000 - 6,800 rpm max, this thing is built to last. The turbo mounts right behind the engine and is easy to access. Speaking of access, the Hondas have removable panels on both sides below the seat for engine access! I haven't seen this on any other PWC's, what a great idea!
